We told you awhile back that Thumbplay was working on a new music store for BlackBerry devices. The app is on device with OTA downloads and has some serious features that put it toe to toe with 7Digital’s music store. I had a chance to try a prerelease version of the app a few months ago and I was suitably impressed. Downloads OTA were quick and the app lets you stream music from their store.
The real differentiator is that Thumbplay’s music store is a subscription model where the full monthly subscription is $9.99 a month with a free trial for a few days. That means you can stream and download to your hearts content but will lose the songs if you cancel the subscription.
UPDATE: Thumbplay let me know that if you cancel your subscription you will still be able to access the music/playlists – but you will only be able to hear samples of the songs. Also, if you cancel but then re-subscribe at a later date, all of your playlists and favorited artists, etc. will still be there in full, just as you left it. There is also the opportunity for individual purchase (DRM-Free, variable pricing), and all of those songs are yours to keep –whether you subscribe or not.
