Verizon Brags About LTE Speeds & Teaches Us About Skype Mobile

Verizon just stated the obvious this week. They have proven in their test LTE areas that LTE is faster than 3G… I am super excited about LTE but what would be the point if it was not faster? They are claiming that their test beds are showing from 40-50mbps down and 20-25mbps up but in real life scenarios those go down to 5-12mbps down and 2-5mbps up. Those speeds are a nice bump up from EVDO Rev A. 🙂 Anybody else can’t wait to get their hands on a LTE BlackBerry? Verizon is still scheduled to roll it out to 20-35 markets by the end of 2010. That is just a few months away!

In other good news Verizon has started opening up about their recently announced Skype Mobile exclusive deal. Bla1ze over @CrackBerry spotted a video that Verizon put up explaining in what I consider “idiot speak” how the system will work. Nothing really specific here other than the fact that you will be able to send messages through the client and the voice quality will be excellent. I am still not sure how Verizon plans on making money off this whole deal but it will definitely be interesting. They also make sure to stick it to the iPhone and its lack of multitasking which adds some spice. Hopefully more details will be forthcoming.
