When we mentioned JConverter yesterday Art let us know about another free unit converter for BlackBerry. This one seems a bit more powerful with more conversion directions and it has an OTA link. Not to mention that it is opensource GPLv2 so it should stick around for awhile. It supports the 8700-Storm but the 8700 has a different installer. Keep up the good work Daniel Manrique!
It can convert between:
- Data: from bits to terabits and tebibits, from bytes to terabytes and tebibytes
- Force: Newtons, Kilonewtons, Kilograms force, Pounds force
- Torque: Newton-meters, foot-pounds, inch-pounds, Kilogram-meters
- Speed: Miles per hour, Kilometers per hour, Miles per second, Kilometers per second, Meters per second
- Weight: Kilogram, Carat, Gram, Miligram, Pound, Stone, Ounce, Arroba, Quinta
- Temperature: Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin
- Length: Kilometer, Meter, Mile, Inch, Centimeter, League, Rod, Yard, Foot, Hand
- Volume: liter, Cubic meter, milliliter, Gallon, Quart, Pint, Fluid Ounce, bushel, Fluid Arroba
- Area
- Pressure
- Power
- Film industry (enabling you to see how many feet of film a 50-second clip would take, or see how many frames will fit in a meter of film): Feet (of film), Frames, Meters (of film obviously), seconds
You can read more on the product page at this link or pick up the installer OTA at this link. If you have an 8700 you need to use this OTA installer for some reason.
Let me know what you think!

Hopefully it being open source will mean adding even more convertions to it. I have a free convertor on my old palm T5 that has in addition to the ones this one converts: acceleration, angle, clothing, density, flow, fuel consumption, numbers, radioactivity, and shoes. Of course I don’t use any of them but do see others using them. The number one is handy for figuring out roman numerals but has other number formats it can convert as well. The good thing is this one for BB has all the frequent things I convert.
