BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins Would Make $55.6 Million on Sale

Thorsten Heins RIM

It seems like BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has quite a bit to gain from BlackBerry being sold. According to a proxy filing BlackBerry put out and had approved in May (via BusinessWeek) the actual sum is $55.6 million if BlackBerry is sold and he is terminated. If he is just terminated he is eligible for $22 million package. That includes quite a few different compensation numbers but it is in line with what other CEOs have in place according to BlackBerry’s proxy filing.

Its interesting to see how the market is pushing towards a sale now that BlackBerry has said it will entertain offers instead of just looking into it. In truth though it does not seem like much has changed.

  1. I’m a huge Blackberry-fan but BB made a lot of mistakes over the last 1-2 years for which – at least partially – Mr Heins is responsible. BB10 is still full of bugs (particularly BB Link and BB Protect) and nobody knows whether they will ever get fixed. BB10 is not good enough to win over iOS & Android-users but sadly, even a lot of BB7-users seem to be sceptical. I wonder: will Mr Heins earn more when BB survives … or when it goes bankrupt?
