Verizon just announced that they have released a new version of their NFL Mobile app for Verizon users. DavidB let me know about the new app that gives users two options to stay up to date on teams, players and happenings around the league. The app gives uses the latest news, stats, & scores for all the league until the Super Bowl XLV in North Texas in February 2011. They will also have live audio broadcasts of every regular season game during the 2010 season.
The second feature is for NFL video content which is available for users who have a VCAST Video subscription. If you have the $10 subscription you get access to on demand video and live streams of:
- NFL RedZone, the wildly-popular channel from NFL Network that airs live or near-live look-ins of every key play and touchdown from Sunday afternoon games
- NFL Network, which airs seven days a week, 24 hours a day on a year-round basis and is the only network fully dedicated to the NFL and the sport of football
- NBC’s Sunday Night Football
- NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football
The regular news app has no monthly charge beyond data and you get free access to the video content until the end of August. Starting Sept 1st you will need a VCAST Video subscription to watch the video content but the regular content will remain free. The app supposedly works on the 8330, 8530, 9630, 9650, 9530, & 9550 so it looks like only the 8830 & 8700v are left out on this one.
I am not sure what to make of the following in their announcement:
Verizon Wireless customers who downloaded NFL Mobile prior to July 22 will continue to enjoy all of the features of the app at no additional cost through Super Bowl XLV. Usage of the app will continue to be charged according to the customer’s data package.
Maybe it means if you did not update the app and had it before yesterday then you get the video content free? Who knows…
