This is truly a blast from the past. Ages ago I used to use Trillian on Windows 98 to chat on multiple IM networks from one client. I don’t really use anything more than Google Talk and BBM anymore so I have not had a need for a multi-IM client but Trillian use to be THE multi-IM client back in the day.
The company behind Trillian, Cerulean Studios, announced that they are bringing Trillian to the BlackBerry. Pretty cool stuff especially considering their feature list in the beta that is coming out soon including Jabber and Facebook chat.

- Synchronize with Trillian for Windows, Mac, iPhone, Web and BlackBerry for contact list, avatars, accounts, etc

- Two beautiful themes – black and white – designed to smoothly integrate into the BlackBerry environment
- Handy and thoughtful keyboard shortcuts throughout
- Various notification options – sounds, vibration, LED control, email push, home screen icons
- Contact list sorting, grouping, MetaContacts, privacy, and organization
- Set status, avatar, and display name from within the app
- Message window bubble view, copy/paste, send photo, send buzzes, emoticons
- Supports BIS, BES, WiFi, and direct TCP connections

Interesting. I still use Trillian 3.1x Pro for Win — still like the UI more than Pidgin or Digsby or Miranda or what-not — but despise the 4.x “Astra” that took them a dozen years to release, even though I wound up paying for the upgrade for some reason. In other words, will be keeping close tabs on this BB project, but don’t have high hopes. Can’t imagine it’ll be better than Beejive.

BeeJive 2.0 is bad. I’ve been a BeeJive user since the beginning, and they’ve really screwed up with the latest version. If you consider that, Trillian will have an easy job. I can’t wait!
