RIM App Picks – Spring Into Spring with BlackBerry

BBQ Assistant Every few months RIM sends us a list of their top app picks for the season or holiday. I always find these picks fascinating since it gives you some insight into what RIM considers to be a useful application. I have to wholeheartedly agree with their choice of Contacts Cleaner but I have never heard of Bills Barbeque Assistant which is essentially just a glorified timer. Let me know what you think of their choices!

Enjoy the Outside

  • Patio season is heating up, and it’s time to dine alfresco. Get first dibs on the best outdoor grub spots when you take advantage of location-based apps like Poynt, WHERE and buzzd.  (Free)
  • It’s time to fire up the grill.  With Bills Barbeque Assistant you’ll have hassle-free grilling.  Not only can you get help creating your menu, but the app will also guide you through the grilling process. ($2.99)

Baseball Season

  • Keep up with the game from your device with MLB.com at Bat 2010.  Listen LIVE to regular season and Postseason game, while viewing up to the minute box scores and player stats. ($14.99)
  • And thanks to CBS Sports Bookmark, you can also have full control of CBSSports.com fantasy baseball teams, including fantasy scoreboard, set lineup, My Player News, roster trends, and more. (Free)

Staying Active

  • Get outside, but don’t get lost!  Take advantage of hiking & biking applications like BlackStar to keep track of your latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, direction and the distance to your destination. (Free)
  • Packing a picnic lunch for that long hike? The Sierra Club Granite Gourmet Knowledge Cards offer trail-tested recipes for backpacking and camping adventures. The app also offers tips on food staples and single-burner cooking. ($4.99) A portion of the app sales proceeds are donated to the Sierra Club for environmental protection causes.
  • It’s finally fishing season again!   For the best action, keep an eye on the tides.  The Tides app will predict and graph in real-time tide data from over 3,000 locations in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii. No internet or network connection is required. ($9.99)

Spring Cleaning

  • Out with the old and in with the new, with the Contacts Cleaner app! It finds and merges duplicate contacts in your address book.  With a single click, Contacts Cleaner quickly and efficiently eliminates duplicate contacts. ($2.99)
  • Did you know that gathering your friends for some outdoor fun just got quicker and easier?  With BlackBerry Messenger, you can organize a last-minute BBQ or group run by sending out a group invite and creating a group event on everyone’s calendar. Then share photos in your group and read everyone’s comments on the pics!

  1. Has anyone heard if the MLB At Bat will be expanded to support more devices? I used the Mobile Premium last year which was web based but I would love to use the app this year. Currently running a Bold 9000.

  2. This is a great list and definitely brings back the spring fever feeling. I downloaded Contacts Cleaner and will get the Sierra Club App tonight. Thanks for letting everyone know about all of the top fun spring-themed apps!

  3. Thanks for passing this along, Ronen! I am excited to get a few of these Apps. The theme is fun. I’ve been toying with possibly getting an iPhone but just may stick with the Blackberry if they keeping coming up with cool Apps such as the ones that you mentioned.

  4. This is exactly the type of list that I would love to see more of. I enjoy my Blackberry and want to now make it fun. If RIM keeps providing us with App that can be used either for play or for productivity, I’ll stick with them. Thanks Berry Review for this great list. I’m ready to get a few apps and enjoy the sunshine!

  5. I love this list. I just showed my roommate and we’re going to purchase a handful of these Apps. Between the two of us, we’ll be set for the warm weather, outdoor adventures and will have our spring cleaning done! Thanks so much.
