RIM Adds Escalation Feature to Official Support Forums

BlackBerry-support-forums RIM’s official support forums are growing at a pretty fast pace and they are slowly adding features to handle the growth. They first added the Kudos feature where members can recognize key contributors. Now they have added the ability for “super users” to escalate forum threads to RIM’s attention.

This will hopefully draw RIM employee attention to threads that deserve it so that they can get the necessary attention. I am curious to see what developers think about this new feature and if they plan on using it to get answers to their questions. RIM has also started getting involved with a new community groups project. These community groups will help developers meet other local companies and collaborate and share. They have made an open call to existing community groups so let them know!

What else do you think RIM needs to do to help grow their development community?

  1. One of the biggest things to come to forums access is the vBulletin platform and, in particular, the Berryblab application. Personally, I know I’m frequenting forums now that I wouldn’t have previously just because access is easier. If RIM wants to really make these forums useful to clients, they either need to make the platform compatible with third party applications that enable on-device access or develop and present an application that would work with its present platform. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I think the future of forums generally lies in mobile accessibility.
