Zeemote managed to completely confuse me with their latest announcement. They are so proud to announce that the Zeemote is now compatible with BlackBerry handhelds and then go on to say that it will only be available for sale sometime in this Summer on ShopBlackBerry.com. I guess you can buy the Nokia package but even that is not available in the US or Canada. On top of that the games that it will support will only be released this summer…
Still the idea is pretty cool. It is kind of like a Wii controller with a joystick and two buttons. It might make games from Gameloft and EA actually playable since you cannot move diagonally with the BlackBerry trackball. The controller runs on 2 AAA batteries and claims compatibility with the Curve, Bold, Tour, Pearl, & 8800. Sadly it will be yet another thing to carry around with you when you might as well pick up a Nintendo DSi…
Their words on availability and compatibility:
The Zeemote JS1 Controller will be available this summer online through ShopBlackBerry.com in North America, Europe or Asia in the official Zeemote JS1 BlackBerry Retail Pack. The Zeemote retail pack is compatible with all games for BlackBerry utilizing the Zeekey Controller App and also includes one free game from Gameloft. Users can select from titles such as Block Breaker 2 Deluxe™, Asphalt 4™, Terminator Salvation™, H.A.W.X™, Wimbledon 2009™, Pro Golf World Tour 2010™, Sonic Unleashed™ and many more. The Zeemote JS1 will also be made available through an official BlackBerry smartphone bundle from select retailers or mobile operators coming Fall 2009.
