Orbitz Mobile – Very Weak Travel Site

Orbitzmobile I have been slowly mentioning the sites I come across geared towards mobile users who need travel information. So far I have not found any great site for mobile access to flights, hotels, and cars. When DavidB told me about Orbitz Mobile I got a bit excited and ran to check it out. Sadly I am unimpressed. The site is very weak and only offers a few features:

  • You can check out travel alerts for certain cities
  • You can login and view your trips
  • You can check flight status
  • You can find hotels and their average price that are available for that day but you cannot book them or get any more information. The hotels are also limited to the 20 largest cities in the US.

So what do you think? Were you hoping for more? I wonder if my dream of finding and booking a flight/car/hotel from my phone is a pipe dream… Let me know if you have found any other mobile resources.

  1. Orbitz Mobile was one of the first mobile travel sites out there. We are in the process of enhancing, but the problem has always been the mass of inventory we have available.

Orbitz was also the first travel site that sent Traveler Alerts (TLC Alerts) across multiple airlines- letting you (and your loved ones or business partners) know when your flight will be delayed, canceled, etc. We do this via email, sms, or voicemail.

Let us know what your dream functionality is, and if it is feasible, i can assure you we will look into it. stay tuned- you will be excited

  2. Have you ever checked out Kayak? (www.kayak.com) They have a great meta-search for flights and hotels and if you visit from your BB or any other smartphone, it auto-modifies the page for mobile viewing and makes it really simple to book travel/accommodations. Have a look and maybe you’ll like it more than Orbitz.

  3. I’m sure that orbits will eventually have more functionality. I would love a site that allowed me to book a flight through a mobile site. I have used the mobile hotels.com site to book a hotel. It was very easy to use. Of course it only does hotels but it’s a start!
