RIM has also generously provided a video that finally explains all the different transports available on the BlackBerry for developers. This is extremely useful for giving developers who are trying to make their applications BlackBerry friendly and have no idea what a transport is…
So far we have the following networks available on the BlackBerry to confuse developers:
- BlackBerry MDS or BES
- BIS-B – BlackBerry Internet Service
- Direct TCP
- WAP
- WiFi
Check out the video at this link and make sure to forward it to developers who are trying to support the BlackBerrys more complicated connections. I can’t tell you how many developers have asked me what a BIS-B or BIS-T connection is and why they would want to have it.
