Scheduled Outage: Americas May 25th 2:00 AM Until 6:00 AM (EDT)

OutagestockworkerJSanders at BBforums got the scoop on a scheduled outage early Sunday morning. I know I wont be awake at 2AM EDT but for west coast users this will be about 11PM on Saturday night. So if your on call that night its worth to know.

Medium-S3 Severity Maintenance (New) for BlackBerry Relay service for subscribers of The Americas(GPRS)

Impact: Subscribers will be unable to receive messages and will receive an “x” when sending messages. No messages will be lost, and any queued messages will be delivered after the change is complete. Subscribers will also be unable to browse web sites until the change is complete.

Change Window Start Date and Time: 25 May 2008; 2:00 a.m. (EDT) until End Time: 6:00 a.m. (EDT)

Estimated Duration of Service Impact: 0 hour(s) and 20 minute(s)

% of Subscribers Affected: 100.00 (estimated)

  1. What is this…1999? I don’t understand how a company that supports millions of subscribers (and charges a pretty premium to use their service) cannot afford the redundant systems that would be required to keep their users online during system upgrades. I mean really!

  2. 100% of GPRS users? Or 100% of North American users? The way I read the advisory it doesn’t apply to EVDO (Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, etc) users???

    Not that I really care, I expect system upgrades and in the middle of the night on a weekend IS the best time. Heck, maybe they are upgrading to ADD some much needed redundancy to thus reduce future unexpected outages???
