John Chen Applauds Google for Bolting On Security to Android

Passport2

Google announced that they are taking one more step to securing the scary Android mobile landscape by leveraging Samsungs KNOX containerization tech. This is similar to BlackBerry Balance for separating business and personal apps on a device and is something BlackBerry has been doing for years. John Chen took to the official BlackBerry Blog to say he is “delighted by this first step” and said Google is now validating that the “need to improve Android Security was clear” and that this validates what BlackBerry has been doing for years.

The irony is that KNOX has not been widely adopted and fewer than 2 million Samsung phones actually run KNOX today compared to 10s of millions of BlackBerry’s. It should be interesting to see how this plays out for Google since their platform is in dire need of such a security boost to get companies more comfortable with the solution.
