Is BlackBerry Offering BES 10 CAL Perpetual Licenses for All Traded Up CALs?

BES Licenses

We have heard from multiple readers about this new change in BlackBerry’s stance. Until the end of 2013 BlackBerry was saying that they were offering to convert BES 5.0 licenses to BES 10 licenses for free with one caveat. You had to activate a BlackBerry 10 device on that license before the end of 2013 for it to stick. Now BlackBerry is sending out an interesting update email to companies who have converted their BES 5.0 CALs to BES 10. Here is what it says:

A Special Bonus – In addition, we are excited to announce that as a valued customer you will now receive perpetual BES10 EMM Corporate licenses for BlackBerry® 10 for every CAL that you traded up – not just for the ones that you activated BlackBerry 10 devices against.

In other words it seems like BlackBerry has removed the device activation restriction. They explain this change by saying that:

You can use these licenses to continue to activate more BlackBerry 10 devices in your organization for free! This added bonus is just one of the ways that we are continuing to make the transition to BES10 as cost effective as possible

It should be interesting to see what BlackBerry now does with companies that did not trade up their CAL licenses and now want to…
