BlackBerry PlayBook Gets a Bittorrent Client in App World

 Torrent PlayBook

I am really starting to wonder if RIM has finally seen the light and decided to relax some of the App World restrictions. The latest example brought to my attention is Torrent by Dmytro Mishchenko. (thanks DH) I am not sure where Dmytro ported this app from but it seems to work for basic torrent files. As the few reviews note the app is not integrated with the browser so you first have to download the .torrent files through the browser and then open them through the app. Other than that I have not had too much time to test it out but it does work! Anyone care to take a stab on if RIM will allow a Bittorrent client to stay in App World?

You can find  Torrent in App World for $0.99. We take no responsibility if RIM pulls the app after you purchase it…

PS: If you don’t mind sideloading a Bittorrent client you may also want to check out Playtorrent (Google it)

  1. I just sideloaded android atorrent…it works great!

  2. Been using PlayTorrent for a few weeks, it’s ok I guess, but try side loading Swarm.
It’s also another free Torrent client that works just as well on the PlayBook.
Just a reminder, you can’t expect speeds of 1MB download after all this is just (an awesome) tablet.
I’m actually surprised BlackBerry App World let this app in their site let’s see how long RIM keeps it online.
It’s a nice change – keep it up RIM:)

  3. hi Doug,

  4. Nerdberry.net just posted an update on this article. Torrent by Dmytro Mishchenko has been removed from App World. Here is the link: http://nerdberry.net/2012/03/14/blackberry-playbook-gets-a-bittorrent-client-in-app-world/
