I have been asked quite a few times for the best translation application for BlackBerry. The sad truth is that I don’t have a good answer. So far we have covered the free BBTran application, the MikeBrittain.com translation website, and how to translate using Google Talk. The latest I have discovered is an older (I think) application from Shape called Translator+.
Translator+ is essentially a search tool that queries Shape’s servers for translations. It seems to work quite well and stores your previous translations on your BlackBerry. It supports English, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional languages and about 30 directions of translation. I am not sure if this is just using another service such a Google Translate or Babelfish but it seems to work well.
The application is available from the store for $9.95 with a 7 day trial for you to put it through its paces.
Next we will cover some of the translators that store the translations on the device. The only problem is those tend to be costlier and require you to purchase each language separately.
