Firefox To Focus On Mobile Browser Market

mozilla.gifI was just reading a post by Simon Sage on BlackBerryCool that pointed out Mozilla’s intention to enter the mobile browser market. Simon found a great post in schreps blog on Mozillazine about the new focus on mobile browsers. He even goes so far as to call mobile browsers “First Class Citizens” based on the fact that mobile handsets outsell computers 20-1.

I know many of you will point out that Mozilla already dipped its toes in the water with their original MiniMo mobile browser but that project has long been dead and berryied. It seems that after Firefox 3 is release we will be seeing some development of a Firefox mobile edition with plugin support that we have grown to love. I am not getting my hopes to high since from experience these third party browsers do not support the integrated functionality available in the native BlackBerry Browser. While third party browsers such as OperaMini are a great alternative for certain websites that do not work in the BB browser they so far have not proven themselves worthy of replacing it.

Its interesting to note that Mozilla has brought in the browser-man, Christian Sejersen, from Openwave which is a competitor of Motorola’s 4thpass browser that the current BlackBerry browser is based on.
