Google Improves CardDAV Support With High Resolution Contact Sync & More

BlackBerry Contacts

Google has been improving their support of the open CardDAV standard thankfully. This is the standard they use for syncing contacts in Gmail and Google Apps. BlackBerry 10 uses the CardDav standard to synchronize your contacts to Gmail and thanks to Google it is getting some nice improvements. Thankfully they are now syncing high resolution full screen contact photos instead of the measly 96×96 thumbnails. I have been hearing my friends on Android complain about that one for YEARS. On top of that Google has added:

  • Sync-Collections, which improves battery life for mobile users by reducing the amount of data exchanged.
  • POST support, which reduces mobile data usage when creating new contacts.
  • For Google Apps users, searching the domain’s Global Address List.

No word on when those extra features will filter down to BlackBerry 10 support but hopefully they are coming. I know the GAL search for Google Apps would be useful.
