We might yet see why BlackBerry decided to launch in the UK first. According to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek (via Forbes) the BlackBerry Z10 is off to a strong start in the UK. They are reporting that some stores had lines with “wide spread sellouts” of the white version and “limited stock of the black version. On top of that both of the options are seeing strong preorders in Canada and the UAE.
Here is his recap:
“We believe Carphone Warehouse is seeing widespread sell-outs while O2, Vodafone, Orange and EE are seeing robust demand,” he writes. “We estimate sell-in to be at least several hundred thousand units. To put that in perspective, the iPhone had first weekend sales of 5 million+ in the U.S. The U.S. is five times larger so continued strong sales could bode very well for Blackberry.”
I wonder how some other media outlets will spin this one…
