BlackBerry OS 7.1 Application Resource Monitor to Kill Battery Sucking Apps

resource-monitor-3

I am really liking what I am reading about a new feature RIM is adding to BlackBerry OS 7.1 devices. The new Application Resource Monitor is something I have been wanting RIM to do for awhile. It automatically monitors running processes on your BlackBerry that are running in the background or using excessive CPU or timers (You know who you are…) and allows you to set them to shut down before they kill your battery. You can also whitelist certain apps and more so it is like an intelligent automated task manager for problematic apps.

Mark from RIM posted on the developer blog detailing how apps can avoid being shut down for excessive usage. I really hope RIM adds this soon and better yet allows older devices to download the Application Resource Monitor as an app. BlackBerry 10 & the PlayBook OS more or less does something like this automatically in the background so I am not sure if it is necessary. Let us know what you think!

  1. This would be awesome. Some bberry apps are notorious for spontaneously draining all your juice in the background (I’m looking @ you Yelp!)

This would be a fantastic addition… should have done it 5 years ago.
