I am not sure if this is construed as both bad and good but The Canadian Press surveyed their editors and broadcaster members to name Canada’s top business news story for all of 2011. Turns out the top story was a huge focus on RIM with a huge margin. I doubt that RIM is very proud of this distinction though it does mean all eyes are on RIM so any new coverage could be turned into good coverage.
Here is the breakdown for 2011 stories in Canada:
- Research In Motion: 37%
- The Canadian economy: 24%
- Keystone XL: 13%
- Personal debt levels: 9%
- Toronto stock market: 6%
- TMX takeover: 3%
- Gold prices: 3%
- Housing prices: 3%
- Wheat Board Changes: 1%
