RIM and Their New “Web Application Platform Framework”

It looks like the term “Widget” is starting to fall out of favor with RIM. Jason Mace wrote up a little piece about what he heard at AT&T BlackBerry 6 Developer webcast last week together with RIM. He posted some slides about the new “Web Application Platform Framework” and its API’s which sounds suspiciously like an updated version of RIM’s Widget SDK. I guess even RIM was frustrated by the crappy sad state of their current Widget SDK.

Supposedly the new BlackBerry Web Plugin for Eclipse and Visual Studio will be coming in Q3 2010 (right about now?) and will bring things to version 2.5. Anybody else super excited? I was having fun with the widget plugin for eclipse yesterday and I can tell you I was AMAZED at how user friendly RIM made it… 🙂 Now remind me once more why every Widget needs code signing keys?
