I have never used Nimbuzz myself but many people I know swear by it. Nimbuzz is a free IM client that aggregates your IM conversations into one application. The problem was that Nimbuzz did not keep up with the times and is only now supporting OS 5.0. There is one caveat that your device must be running OS 5.0.0.4XX and higher for it to work but most recent releases are higher than that.
