I have to admit the Skype & Verizon deal that both announced at MWC still has me scratching my head. They both agreed to bring Skype phone calls over 3G to BlackBerry phones very soon.
I was trying to do some digging and ran across this article by Om Malik detailing some more information he managed to get from his sources. It looks like this Verizon/Skype deal is actually a 2-3 year exclusive agreement between the two companies. His sources told him that no other carrier in the US will be getting a similar Skype offering.
That would really suck since I know Skype was planning on launching an app for the iPhone with a BlackBerry client very soon for all carriers. Could be this is Verizon’s way to differentiate their smartphones by offering Skype.
What do you think?

Maybe this will prove to T-Mo that differentiation is key, and make them think twice about getting rid of UMA calling and land line VoIP.

Nah…I’m just speculating that they will have their own deals but…not exclusive. This isn’t a GPS feature or an exclusive phone…
