I have been waiting to hear this for a long time. Josep let me know about a thread on BlackBerryForum(de) where detailed leaked about an upcoming Enhanced Gmail Plugin. This plugin is rumored to add Gmail specific functions on your BlackBerry including:

  • See your Gmail based emails in Conversation View for simple topic management
  • Add and remove labels and stars to emails to keep inbox organized
  • Archive and report as spam actions for mailbox management on the go
  • Search your entire Gmail inbox

You can try an get in on the RIM beta program but I doubt many will get in. It looks like both RIM and non-RIM employees are testing this out. I CAN’T WAIT!!!

I just wish I could read more of what is going on in that thread. They are even linking to BerryReview for some reason. It looks like BIS 2.7 is required for this to work.

  1. That all sounds good, but I think the MAIN feature everyone wanted before all that extra stuff is 2-way sync (i.e. adding sync from web to BB)!

The feature I want most for the Blackberry GMail app is to have the same Drafts on the Blackbeery GMail app as the GMail website instead of having “Mobile Drafts”. I often compose a well thought out email complete with attachments and only want to send it when I’m in a meeting with the recipient.

To date I’ve had to compose the email on my desktop, and then save it in Drafts, then use the Blackberry Browser to get to the same Drafts and then send from there.
