TrafficGauge – Real Time Traffic Reports

trafficguage Josep let me know about a new app released called TrafficGauge. It gives you access to real time traffic maps in major cities for a low monthly fee. I know that most people are just fine with the traffic provided free by Google Maps but for those of you who want more… TrafficGauge is promising what they call “reliable and accurate” traffic information. They only provide data for cities that they know are accurate so not all cities are covered. It now supports the Curve, Pearl, & 8800 series devices but hopefully newer devices will be supported soon.

Pricing
The application costs $1.99/month for a 1-year plan, $2.99/month for a 6-month, and $3.99/month for a 3-month plan.

Description

TrafficGauge for BlackBerry is a custom application that allows you to receive real-time traffic maps on your BlackBerry Pearl, Curve or 8800 series phone.
BlackBerry users enjoy the advantages of one-key commands to refresh and zoom maps, and you can launch the application with one press of the convenience key (side button) by following a simple setup instruction. Unlike web-browser-based services, TrafficGauge for BlackBerry remembers your city, zoom level and last map view so you can focus on the areas important to you immediately.
This is the only BlackBerry application that provides reliable and accurate traffic information. Unlike other providers, we don’t use historical data or educated guesses about traffic – we only use actual real-time data to guide you around traffic. We only provide data for cities where we can stand behind the data accuracy. Select a new city any time you travel. Our customers report saving an average of 9 hours a month simply by avoiding the slowest freeways.

The map shows areas of STOP-AND-GO, SLOW, MEDIUM, and FAST traffic flow. Any area with a black dot has a short period of traffic below 10 mph. Areas without available traffic information are shown in GRAY.

  1. This looks like a great app, but if you poke around their website, you will find that the list of cities supported is limited. SMall irrelevant cities like New York, Washington, Boston are not supported. When they support the east coast, I would buy this.
