Tatango – Ad Supported Group/Distribution SMS Messages
Ever needed to broadcast a message to a group of people through SMS. My wife does it all the time when we have BBQ’s and parties. She has to set her Berry to send a text message to each recipient. First of all each one of those outgoing messages counts against her monthly SMS bucket.
Tatango attempts to step in a allow for distribution/group SMS messages. You send one message to Tatango and it will forward it to the intended recipients. This could be useful for softball teams and other groups that just need a way to quickly get the word out. The service is ad supported so you will be getting an ad along with your SMS message.
The way it works is that you first sign up on their website and invite some friends. All of your friends need to accept your invitation and then you can set who can message the group. You can send the group SMS from your browser or from your phone.
They do have a monthly subscription model for about $30+ a month but I think people will rather have 30 characters of ads instead of a monthly fee.
