Jivetalk Beta With Group Chat – Changes Name To BeeJive IM

Jivetalk and IM+ have been head to head for quite awhile for the best 3rd party IM client. They are both striving to differentiate and Jivetalk may have found a lead with their latest feature. Josep just let me know about a thread on BeeJive’s forums stating that they have just released a new beta with Group Chat support. They have also changed their name from Jivetalk to BeeJive IM. I guess that having a more self explanatory name helps.

JivetalkproductThis BETA build 1.0.6 brings:

  • Group Chat Support for AIM,YHOO and JABBER. MSN to follow
  • Lotus Sametime support
  • Ability to see the buddy icons on the chat area with a preference to set this on/off

Should be interesting to see how this pans out. You can find your OS specific download and instructions on how to setup the beta at this link.

The sad part is that the only group chat I really care about is Google Talk. I wish RIM would find a way to implement that…

  1. Didnt find the upgrade really useful just for groupchat but kudo’s to the name change 🙂

  2. Actually the upgrade is nice for us who use group chat on a jabber server. The main reason I got Jivetalk was because of its ability to connect to jabber servers.

  3. The v1.0.7 beta, which provides MSN group chat support, has been posted.

  4. Another Blackberry client that has supported Jabber Group Chat for a long time is Vayusphere XMPP Client for Blackberry. Its particularly suited for enterprise/corporate use.

  5. 1. once you make the chat, you cannot invite people. you will have to end the current chat, and create a new one to invite more people.
    2. if you use the default bubbles theme , once in a chat it does not differenciate the people talking, it will only show up Green for everyone talking .
—if you use the other theme themes, including the new bubble with buddy icon, you would be able to asertain who is talking.
    3. unable to send chat invites to those that have yahoo on their sidekicks.
4.i wish the chat name that you create persists when the chat room is made instead of creating a generic “beejive10293878473672636”
5.yahoo chat not working too well.
when a room is created, it it comes up as “null” then the room dissappears.

i still have to play around with it for more quirks as it is still in beta.
