NYC Using GPS BlackBerry’s To Report Road Problems
Matt wrote a blog post about an interesting article on wcbstv.com. It turns out that Bloomberg is deploying BlackBerry GPS units to road inspectors so that the can geo-map the locations of road problems.
Scouts are actually a fleet of three-wheel mini-truck-like vehicles whose mission is to drive every city street once a month and report to 311 conditions that negatively impact the quality of life in the city. The scout operator will drive down a street with a BlackBerry connected to a GPS system. When the operator sees something like litter or graffiti or a pothole, they’ll just push a button and enter in the information into the system.
