USB Promoter Group Approves USB Power Delivery Of Up to 100 Watts

Now this is one technology movement I am excited about. The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has approved a new specification for power delivery over USB. Specifically it is called the USB Power Delivery specification and its meant to offer a smarter way to pump power through USB. This means that they will be able to pump up to 100 watts over a USB cable which should be able to power your laptop and way more. I am secretly hoping that it also means my BlackBerry and PlayBook will finally charge at their max even when hooked up to a PC.

Check out the new approved spec at USB.org. Oh and don’t forget there will obviously be new cables required for this. πŸ™‚ via SemiAccurate
