Last month CellCrypt announced that they will be bringing their government grade call encryption software to the BlackBerry. They have kept their promise and CellCrypt for BlackBerry is now available to companies as far as I can tell. This does not look like it is meant for casual users and their price list is not published but I can imagine it is high. On the other hand they do mention that no specific equipment is necessary so I am not sure how your recipient will decrypt your phone calls…
The main reason I am mentioning this release is that it looks like CellCrypt is a true VOIP solution for BlackBerry. I am not sure how the hell they pulled it off but their specifications detail that the call is going over the data channel using the Encrypted Mobile Channel Protocol. The crazy part is that they claim it will work on 2G networks along with 3G and Wi-Fi which is impressive.
I sent an email in to them asking if the whole call is done over the data connection. If so I want to know how they managed to pull that off right under RIM’s nose when Skype is struggling to do the same thing.
Check out the details over at www.cellcrypt.com and let me know what you think!
