BlackBerry OS 4.5 Official Release

Sorry for the text only article but I’m writing direct from my device. I’m in a BlackBerry Seminar and have pinned the RIM spokesman to a release date for the new device OS 4.5. Seems it will officially be released today (Friday 25/07/08) on Optus in Australia. Worldwide roll-out across all carriers will be within the next 2 weeks.
So for those of you who have not updated using one of the leaked Beta’s then the wait is almost over.

This is wonderful news! I just don’t want to get too excited to then be disapointedby having RIM dalay it further.

I also want to know if CDMA c3riers will also release 4.5 around this time? I have a 8330 with Verizon..Thanks

  4. So, this is specifically for Optus/Australia… Or do you mean a release greater than rel81 PL2.7.0.68 A4.5.0.55??

As, other carriers have already released OS4.5…. (e.g. Vodacom, Vodaphone, A1, TIM, etc)

I don’t understand, official versions of 4.5 OS’s have been out for some time on the blackberry website…

The 4.5 may have been out for particular carriers as there Testing Process is faster than others, and with Vodafone and RIM’s relationship as an example this will fast track things for them. Saying that, my understanding from Greg’s post is that RIM will be Supporting the Version Globally across all carriers. This however does not say that we will have this immediate influx of carriers updapting websites with code, etc. The carrier still has to go through testing process for a supported version that will work best on there Network. So we will more than likely start seeing a faster adoption to the Code in the next few weeks as Carriers approve the final code they will support.
