The ‘Off’ Button. An under-utilized BlackBerry native function.

One of our other writers gave me this idea over the weekend.

Now I know BlackBerry pride themselves on the ‘Never Off’ feature of the device but then they included an ‘Off’ button. I know some of you don’t have the opportunity to switch off your BlackBerries, myself included as I am on on-call 24/7/365, but for those of you who do have the right to switch off should try it occasionally.

This goes against everything that BlackBerry stands for but sometimes I think quality time with family and/or friends is just as important…if not more so…

You don’t even have to fully switch off if you are really afraid of missing something. The ‘Profiles’ selection on you device includes an ‘Off’ or ‘Phone Only’ function.

Everything will still be there when you get back. Your emails, text messages, RSS reader items and everything else that BlackBerry includes in their vast array of communications software.

Enjoy the peace and quiet for a little while…and as the great Jerry Seinfeld once said, “You have to give people a chance to miss you!”.

  1. Powering down your Blackberry is also a good way to free up some of that precious memory, even if it’s only for 30 seconds. I try to do it at least once a week to free up some extra memory.
