BlackBerry’s Delay Of BlackBerry Priv – Demand or Problem?

The BlackBerry Priv has been short on supply and ShopBlackBerry (powered by Digital River) has had a tough time keeping up with the demand. With those on pre-orders given an ETA later and later, with the latest November 24, some of you wonder what is going on. Now, softpedia is now reporting a grim picture for the BlackBerry Priv.

To give credit to the inability to fulfill the demand, DigitalRiver (ShopBlackBerry) has had a fair share of complains about their fulfillment speed even before the BlackBerry Priv, and on items that are supposed to be in stock. However, in this case, they have been pretty pro-active in updating customers on the delay, which is a good sight to see.

Nonetheless, earlier this week, they sent the following email:

This is a follow-up to the email we sent you on Friday to keep you updated on ShopBlackBerry PRIV pre-order deliveries. Due to demand, there has been a delay in shipping PRIV smartphones to some customers who pre-ordered

Whilst some of you have received your order, many others have yet to.

According to Softpedia, the BlackBerry Priv has some “technical issue” and is being delayed:

Sources close to the matter tell us that shipments of BlackBerry Priv are being delayed by up to 14 days because of “some internal technical issue.” While specifics aren’t currently available, we’re being told that BlackBerry cannot ship factory-unlocked Priv units, but will instead offer carrier-locked devices with unlock codes generated by BlackBerry.

If this was true, then this is a really bad start to BlackBerry’s first android smartphone. What do you guys think?
