A Simple Reason BlackBerry Opened Up BB10 to Competitor MDMs

Produce - apples and oranges woman

I have been speaking to quite a few current and former BlackBerry BES enterprise customers about BlackBerry’s latest move to open their MDM. It seems like there is an overall common reason for BlackBerry making this move. Many enterprises still have a BES5 implementation for legacy BlackBerry devices and as time moves on they are moving or already have moved to other MDMs to manage Android and iOS. These companies are also trying to consolidate on one MDM so that they do not need to run their AirWatch together with a BES5 AND a BES10 server.

With this latest announcement BlackBerry is opening up the door for BlackBerry 10 devices to be accepted in companies that require devices on MDMs yet do not want to put up BES10. This allows interoperability while still allowing BlackBerry 10 in those enterprises.

Keep in mind I am hearing that BlackBerry’s differentiators will most likely remain BES10 (and BES12) only like BlackBerry Balance and the enhanced Regulatory IT Policies.
