BlackBerry “Cyclone” TV Media Streamer Caught on Camera

P1014334

We heard quite a few rumors a back in 2011-2012 about a media streaming box for TV’s called the Cyclone. Now BlackBerries.ru scored some pictures of what is supposedly this Cyclone device with its HDMI connection and the ability to connect to your BlackBerry phone. The device was also supposedly set to connect to Netflix and YouTube. I am not sure why it was eventually cancelled but I have not heard about the device in ages… I heard rumors that once the PlayBook started struggling the device was canned to focus the development on the PlayBook. This was all while BlackBerry was having their enterprise/consumer internal conflict.

  1. Interesting, but that would have been a terrible idea. Unless they were working on some sort of encrypted streaming media such as teleconferencing, it would have been a huge waste of time and resources. The streaming media market is already flooded with devices. BlackBerry would’ve gotten crushed in such a crowded arena, unless they came with something super-innovative like the aforementioned encrypted teleconferencing or BB device integration similar to Apple’s Airplay.
