City of Waterloo Inks a 3-year Contract With Bell & BlackBerry for $516,000

BlackBerry Waterloo

The City of Waterloo decided to back their hometown BlackBerry in a new $516,000 service contract with BlackBerry and Bell for 3 years. That is $172,000 a year for 204 BlackBerry devices and 166 mobile phones for the city. MobileSyrup confirmed that 50 of the devices are BlackBerry 10 in their Pilot Project Group. Mayor Brenda Halloran went on to say that:

“A lot of our crews will have them — all our planners, our bylaw guys who are out, firefighters… We just feel that it keeps us connected so that if we need to get anything done we have instant connection.” When specifically asked about BlackBerry, Halloran stated “We see it as really important in doing the business of the city — being able to react quickly and efficiently.”

Its nice to see that BlackBerry has some supporters on their home turf.
