When the folks at Roving Power reached out to us to review one of their power packs, I jumped at the chance. When I came across their Professional monster I was sure the battery capacity was a typo. Twenty thousand (20,000) mAh! That’s over triple the juice of my other external battery so I couldn’t wait to try this behemoth out. Keep reading for details about how you can enter for a chance to win your very own Professional Power Pack courtesy of Roving Power.
Apart from the massive capacity, what sets this power pack apart from the…pack, is the ability to charge a laptop and other device simultaneously. You can even charge 1 or 2 devices while the pack itself is plugged into the wall, juicing itself up. Now that’s multitasking. I have tested out other products that shut down output while they are being charged.
As you can see in the above picture, the pack comes with a North American AC adapter used to charge the pack, a laptop charging cable with 8 adapter heads, and a soft carrying case. The aluminum encased device weighs in at 510 grams / 1 pound 2 oz. and is well constructed. It takes beween 4 and 6 hours to charge the pack and the discharge time completely depends on what it is used to charge and how often. There was an adapter head that fit my HP Pavilion G7 laptop perfectly.
I find using this power pack much more convenient than plugging the laptop into the wall. I liked being able to have the pack in the soft case to keep it protected. This is made possible due to all of the ports and the power button being on the same side.
To turn the pack on, hold the power button for about 2 seconds. It will default to 12V (laptop) and 5V (USB) output. To change the output to what works for your laptop, double tap the power button until the blue LED moves to the correct voltage. If you’re wondering which voltage is best for your laptop, just check your wall charging adapter. My G7 wall charger has an output of 19.5V so the 19V option on the Professional Power Pack is the best choice. The USB port always remains powered as long as the pack is turned on.
To check how much juice is left in the pack without turning it on, push and release the power button. Depending on the percentage of remaining power, between 1 and all 4 of the LED lights on the bottom left of the button will light up. The pack will turn itself off after a minute of inactivity. If it is charging a device, it will not turn itself off.
