BlackBerry WebWorks developers have been struggling to create “Built for BlackBerry” experiences on BlackBerry 10. Our buddy Chad at BlackBerry is trying to simplify that by creating a new WebWorks Bootstrap sample for developers. Instead of using frameworks like jQuery Mobile or even BlackBerrys BBUI.js this sample Bootstrap just gives developers the basic skeleton for creating a Built for BlackBerry app. It includes all of the features that your app needs to have to pass that certification including following the BlackBerry UI guidelines, BBM and shareing, and more including app menu swipedown, toasts, window covers, and device specific splash screens.
This is all still in v1 of the sample but hopefully Chad keeps on going. This is a great starting point for new WebWorks developers to get up to speed on the quirks of making things like a swipe down menu work on BlackBerry 10. Hopefully “pull to refresh” is coming soon too. 🙂
Check out the details in Chad’s announcement or follow him on Twitter. You can find the bootstrap on GitHub.
