BlackBerry Android Runtime to be Updated to Jelly Bean

Release roadmap - Runtime for Android apps - BlackBerry Developer-000131

The current Android Runtime for BlackBerry 10 runs apps on the older but popular v2.3.3 Gingerbread version of Android. This version has become dated and the new hot version of Android is Jelly Bean v4.1 and v4.2. It looks like BlackBerry will be tracking the updated Android versions with an upcoming release of the Android Runtime that will support Android v4.1 Jelly Bean. Here is what BlackBerry has to say about the planned (yet unscheduled) update:

We are working to bring up a newer version of Android Runtime on the BlackBerry 10 platform. We are still working through the details and full scope, but the target is to upgrade the Android Runtime from Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 to Jelly Bean 4.1. The goal is to support all current features and APIs available on the Android Runtime platform today as well as evaluate new features and APIs for inclusion.

This will give developers and users more access to apps developed for tablets and other improvements in Android. Check out the Android Runtime for BlackBerry 10 roadmap here
