In our briefing with RIM on their BlackBerry Messenger 7 Beta they mentioned two other key changes beyond BBM Voice chat that they were introducing. First and foremost is the fact that you will need to transition to using your BlackBerry ID (aka BBID) to login to BBM from now on. This means RIM will be using your BBID email instead of your PIN to sync your data such as Avatars, contacts, groups, and more. I could not get them to confirm if this will allow multiple delivery and sync to multiple devices (think phone and PlayBook getting message at same time) but this is definitely a move in that direction. RIM has already done this move to BBID with the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha beta so this is a welcome change. RIM also made a point of highlighting that this change will simplify users moving to BlackBerry 10.
RIM also mentioned that the new beta has 16 new emoticons available. I don’t really remember which ones they said were new but let us know if you see them. Check out the latest BBM beta at www.blackberry.com/beta.
PS: Installing the BBM 7 beta may prompt you to update the version of the BBID app on your phone since it is necessary for BlackBerry Messenger 7.
