For the longest time, the only official timeline RIM would give us for BlackBerry 10 devices was Q1 2013. Since then we have heard that there will be coordinated launch events all over the world on January 30th. The latest news from RIM’s COO Kristian Tear is that we will finally get our grubby hands on BB10 devices within 30 days of the unveiling. Tear also mentioned that it will be a progressive rollout worldwide, rather than a simultaneous release.
That gives RIM a very comfy cushion extending all the way to March 11, 2013, to get the full touch and qwerty devices out to the masses. This announcement is well timed as RIM is making an effort to keep up interest in BlackBerry 10 to try to convince users to hold off on those upgrades.
I’m hoping the 30 day cushion is more of a safety net, rather than a goal. We shall see.
