Blame Terrence for sending me this screenshot

Terrence (blame him for the screenshot :)) pointed out to me that Neutron Code Limited has brought their awesome Neutron Music Player to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Neutron Music Player is a studio quality music player with an impressive sound engine and beautiful UI. It gives you some seriously complex controls and audio options made for audiophiles. It has a feature list that just makes the PlayBook default music player pale in comparison.

  1. If I listened to music via ear buds most of the time, I wouldn’t bother with this app. But I don’t- as an audiophile and owner of a sound reinforcement company, I listen to music on a macro level, and that’s where this application shines. No app I have tried before or since can match its performance (Android version). If you disagree, that’s fine with me- presuming of course before passing judgment on the app, you:

    1. Knew what a parametric EQ was, or how it differs from a standard EQ;

    2. Used a spectrum analyzer and sine sweep/white/pink test tones to establish a baseline for your listening environment;

    3. Used a FLAC file or other loss-less media file as source material;

    4. Listen to your music on hi-fidelity, hi-powered sound systems, either at home or in your car

    If you did all the above and still think there’s a better app, well then… I’m all ears!
