The Cantech Letter is reporting that they are hearing from sources that RIM is planning on completing this round of layoffs next week. Supposedly RIM is going to let go of the remaining 3,000 employees from the previously announced 5,000 layoffs. Supposedly this final section of the layoffs will happen on August 13th since RIM wants to complete the layoffs before the end of their second quarter on August 31st.
According to Cantech’s source the RIM employees working on BlackBerry 10 are mostly safe along with those in enterprise sales. The areas seeing the biggest cuts are customer service, human resources, marketing, non-enterprise sales, and RIM’s Global Repair Services. It will be really sad to see that many people no longer working at RIM but this will hopefully allow RIM to control costs with a headcount of 10,000 employees as they ramp up to their BlackBerry 10 launch.
We will keep you up to date as this develops.
