RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 just joined the rest of the BlackBerry family by gaining FIPS 140-2 certification. This comes along with RIM’s BlackBerry Device Service, a component of BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, also getting FIPS 140-2 certification. That component is the one that manages the security and policy on the BlackBerry PlayBook and will also manage future BlackBerry 10 devices. This new FIPS 140-2 certification essentially certifies that RIM securely stores personal and sensitive information on the devices.
