Devs (And users) can now get in on the PlayBook OS 2.1.0 fun with a public beta of the OS. This OS rockets the WebKit browser further with a 391 score on HTML5Test. On top of that there are loads of basic improvements like portrait support for email, calendar, and contacts. RIM has also added improved folder support including IMAP folder support in email. RIM has also updated the android runtime to v2.1.0 with each Android app running in its own window along with payment API and Camera API access.
There are more OS 2.1 updates coming with the commercial release along with new Android SDK v2.1 coming then. RIM also said that the 2.1 Native SDK is coming next week with an updated Adobe AIR SDK coming shortly thereafter.
You must Whitelist your device to receive the beta here. Keep in mind this is a beta intended for developers and not end users. More details here. Thanks Tashanna, Brian, and Frank for sending this one in!
PS: Anyone else loving that RIM is finally hitting their deadlines?
