One of the things missing on my PlayBook is a solid GPS app that compares to BlackBerry or Google Maps on my smartphone. Sandsoft has been working on a stopgap solution for now that works relatively well based on Google Maps V3 JavaScript API but until now you had to pay $2.99 for a pro version. Kiran from Sandsoft let us know that they have released a free version of MapSearch to fill in that gap. The free version includes many of the features of the pro version except for things like driving directions and places search.
Hopefully RIM is working on bringing BlackBerry, Google, or Bing maps to the PlayBook natively. Until then you can check out the free version of MapSearch here in App World.
