While many of you are waiting for Netflix to release a PlayBook client there is a new contender in town. EPIX has released a BlackBerry app for their video and movie streaming service. The app has a 14 day free trial for you to kick the tires though the app really needs a follow up release to fix some of the serious bugs in the app. According to EPIX they have over 3,000 movies in their catalog as a joint venture between Viacom, Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Lionsgate.

  1. I’d love to see a video of the app in action. Sometimes just reading about something isn’t enough.

  2. Good idea guys but videos just take forever to upload if you want any decent quality. I only have a 50kbps upload speed which means it can take an hour for a 2-5 minute video

  3. Videos are HD quality and great way to see movies on your HDTV too :) Already seen Buried, Paranormal Activity 2. It’s awesome.
As mentioned in the post, there are still bugs in the application (seems like Beta) but it is definitely good start.
Btw movie selection is also fair and have many latest hits.

  4. The app is not available in Canada. I am not sure how the epix accounts work or if there is a way to side load this and have an epix account.

the playbook movie issue – access to content – is a real pain.

Love my playbook for work – but for movies while traveling – I simply dont have time to be converting files.

  5. App won’t load for me… been using the epixhd website for weeks without issue though.

  6. I got app installed but there is too much bugs i had to uninstall it and i await a updated version if there is still no netflix

  7. I keep getting an HTTP error right before actually playing the movie.

  8. This seems like it could be really good. Normally I would prefer downloading but unfortunately I already have my playbook packed with music and tv shows to make any room, so streaming content would work great.
