Sencha Touch is a very popular JavaScript Web framework that until this week did not support any BlackBerry devices (at least officially). Sencha’s CEO was at DevCon 2010 a few months back and he said they are very interested in the RIM platform and are working on adding compatibility for the BlackBerry. They are now following through on that promise.
RIM announced on their blog that the Sencha Touch v1.1 framework brings support for both BlackBerry OS 6.0 devices like the Torch and the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook. I actually starting building a PlayBook app with Sencha but was waiting for official support from Sencha. Now its here.
You can download the framework and read more at this link. They also have some demo apps available and curiously enough one of them features Jim Balsillie. 🙂
PS: Kudos to the RIM dev team for making this happen. This is a great way to encourage the development community.
