To round out RIM’s inclusion of the 7Digital Music Store on the PlayBook we now have BlackBerry Podcasts. RIM has confirmed that the BlackBerry Podcasts app will come preinstalled on the BlackBerry PlayBook. It will let you easily “find and browse content, as well as quickly and easily subscribe to favorite channels.”
BlackBerry PlayBook users will be able to browse top podcast episodes by download or search through 19 content categories, including sports, entertainment, business and more. Other features of the PlayBook Podcasts app include:
- Episode Preview – Preview Audio and Video Podcast episodes before they are downloaded
- High Fidelity Viewing – Video podcasts will be delivered in their native resolution (up to 1080p), allowing full realization of the BlackBerry PlayBook’s high fidelity 7-inch 1024×600 screen
- Delivery – Subscriptions will update when the application is open – then just click to listen or watch the latest podcasts
- Preferences – Users can control their download preferences – from number of episodes, to retain, to explicit content filters
RIM will be showing off the BlackBerry Podcasts app at SXSW conference. I am really liking how the consumer experience on the BlackBerry PlayBook is rounding out. RIM now has most bases covered with Podcasts and a music store. Now all they need is a video rental/purchase system.
